January 27 — Holocaust Remembrance Day
On this day, the world honors the memory of millions of people who were murdered by the Nazi regime due to hatred of their identity. The Holocaust remains a tragic reminder of where the ideology of devaluing human life can lead.
Today, we once again see how a similar logic manifests itself in Russia’s war against Ukraine. Ukrainians are being targeted for being Ukrainian — for our language, culture, and right to exist as ourselves: through strikes on civilians and energy infrastructure, through cold, darkness, and deprivation of basic living conditions. This reflects the same ideology of devaluing human life.
Holocaust remembrance is not only about the past. It is about present-day responsibility — to name evil as evil and to prevent it from recurring.
Ukrainians will endure. And the world must remember — and act.
We remember. We honor.
